Nurse Practitioners: A Solution to the Healthcare Crisis
Our Nation is facing an epic healthcare crisis with layer upon layer of issues, from prohibitive cost to poor—if at all or limited—access. A big part of the problem is the ever-worsening shortage of primary care physicians. By 2025, the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) says the shortage will top 52,000. In Wisconsin, the shortage is acute, whereby the year 2035, 40% of primary care physicians are expected to retire.
The solution comes in the form of understanding and collaboration among qualified healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurse practitioners (NP), and physician assistants (PA). Did you know that 90% of all primary care visits can be managed by a board-certified NP or PA. For primary care in particular, researchers have proven that with NP and PA care, there are better mortality rates—the frequency of occurrence of death in a specified population, improved disease progression rates or the slowing down of a disease timeline, the following of treatment guidance or treatment adherence, treatment success, and patient satisfaction.
At Viaro, the fully collaborative and integrated healthcare model affords high quality of care for the entire family. In La Crosse we have two outstanding healthcare systems to aid in specialty care and emergency situations. Viaro works seamlessly with both systems when our patients need specialty care, hospitalization, or surgery. Viaro also works with our Nation’s Veterans and VA health systems as well. The Viaro healthcare teams are honored, well-suited, prepared, and above all, qualified to care for you and your family for your primary healthcare needs. Viaro is part of the primary healthcare shortage solution.
