Where and how do I start using Viaro?

The ViaroCare primary care clinic is in downtown La Crosse at 230 Pine Street. Current clinic hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 8am–5pm, Wednesday 9am–6pm, and Friday 7am–4pm. Get timely care with a same- or next-day appointment for concerns like a urinary tract infection, sinus congestion or a sick child by calling 608-668-2111. We accept new patients of any age.

What are the prices for clinic services?

Viaro is completely transparent with pricing. If you are a Direct Primary Care (DPC) member, your care is covered by your monthly membership fee, and you will never get an itemized bill for covered services. Some specialty services such as specialty labs or advanced imaging will result in a separate bill. You will always know the cost before receiving these services.

What does “membership” mean? Do I have to be a member to use the ViaroCare clinic?

Membership means full access to all covered primary and family care services without additional cost. You pay for membership in monthly installments or yearly. As a member, you also get discounts on therapeutic services such as massage, chiropractic care and acupuncture, but do not need to be a member to access services at Viaro.

Specialty services provided by Viaro — like the injection of the medication semaglutide for medical weight loss and certain out-sourced labs — are not covered by membership, but you will know all costs before you agree to these services. Cash prices and network status with most major health plans are updated regularly. Prices are competitive and available to evaluate your cost savings.

What is Direct Primary Care (DPC) and how does it work?

DPC is a newer healthcare model that offers primary care directly to you as a member. The model is successful and popular across the country as an alternative to the usual fee-for-service or insurance-based care because of the patient-centered approach that focuses on access, quality and cost transparency. With Viaro DPC, you are choosing a healthcare option that eliminates the involvement of insurance companies or third-party payers for your healthcare services.

In a DPC agreement, you pay a monthly or annual fee to Viaro. This fee covers a comprehensive range of primary care services, including your routine check-ups, preventive care, acute illness, x-rays and many basic laboratory tests. Specific services covered vary depending on the agreement you choose.

The membership fees give you cost transparency a clear understanding of your healthcare cost savings with or without a DPC plan. Easy-to-understand published fees eliminate the need for copayments, deductibles and claim submissions. This simplifies the finances, reduces the burden of healthcare and allows you to reasonably budget for the care you need.

A DPC agreement is not health insurance. It does not cover hospitalizations, surgeries or specialty care. You may still need major medical health insurance to cover those services, but major medical plans are less costly than most full primary care plans. Many health plans have very high deductibles, but with a DPC plan, you may not need to reach a high deductible to get your care needs met, or paid for, by your insurance.

The key features of a Viaro DPC membership agreement include:

  • Access: Members have access when needed to their primary care team. Appointment times are longer, office hours are extended, and you can communicate with your providers through electronic means without extra cost, including a portal to your entire health record.
  • Personalized care: Viaro emphasizes building a strong provider-patient relationship, so your providers have more time to spend with you. Your providers listen to your concerns and develop individualized treatment plans that meet your needs.
  • Cost transparency: With the DPC fee, you have a clear understanding of the cost of your care. The fee structure eliminates the need for copayments, deductibles or claim submissions, simplifying the financial aspects of healthcare.
  • Expanded services: Direct primary care providers and care navigators coordinate and track care with specialists, outside providers, or diagnostic facilities. Telemedicine for both primary care and behavioral health is also part of the DPC plan.

Most importantly, your membership gives you a direct relationship with your healthcare provider. Your team of providers work together, and access at the first sign of symptoms is priority for all of them. They focus on you and your care, how and when you need it.

How will my membership fee be collected?

When you join Viaro, you securely submit a debit or credit card, or ACH bank information. After you make your first payment, your fee will be billed on the same day each month.

Can I cancel my Viaro membership if the year contract is not up?

To cancel, you must provide Viaro 60 days written notice prior to the expiration of the agreement. You are responsible for paying the fair market value of the services you received less any membership amount paid during the period for which the fees are due.

What if I need more care, a different level of care, or a referral for specialty care?

Viaro has relationships with area healthcare systems that provide emergency or specialty care. Viaro’s registered nurse triages you to the level of care you need. If a referral is made for non-urgent specialty care, Viaro initiates and tracks the referral, making sure you get your appointment in a timely manner and your needs addressed. Additionally, our care navigators assist you with the next steps, ensuring all loops are closed on referrals to outside care.

I have a primary care provider (PCP) elsewhere. Can I still use Viaro?

Even if you have a relationship with a PCP elsewhere, Viaro is a solution when you cannot get a timely appointment with your regular PCP.

If you have a health concern like a urinary tract infection, sinus infection or a sick child, you can get a same-day or next-day appointment by calling 608-668-2111. We accept new patients of any age.

Viaro will also assist your PCP in your urgent or non-emergent care, or ongoing chronic disease management. The Viaro AthenaOne™ electronic medical record is capable of HIPAA-compliant two-way communication with any healthcare system or provider.

I want to take advantage of your inexpensive lab and X-ray prices, but my provider is at another clinic. Is this possible?

If you are a direct primary care member, your membership covers numerous lab tests and X-rays. If you are not a member and have a written order from your provider, you can pay cash for our low-cost, per-service lab tests and X-rays. Our established patients may use any pay option. We can share your results with your provider with your signed release of information.

Do I need a referral for physical therapy?

Physical therapy does not require a referral or an order, but your insurance company may still require a provider referral regardless of the planned treatment. If that applies to you and your referring provider is elsewhere, we can provide you with a superbill for your insurer.

What specialty services do you provide? Can I get referrals to specialty services if I am a patient at Viaro?

Our providers focus on health promotion and disease prevention with integrated therapeutic services like behavioral health, physical therapy, massage, acupuncture and chiropractic to enhance your care. If you and your provider determine you would benefit from a specialty such as advanced imaging, neurology or gastroenterology, for example, your provider will send a referral to a healthcare system or provider with those capabilities.

What types of dermatology services do you provide?

Viaro offers minor in-office dermatological procedures including wart treatment, skin tag removal and mole removal with biopsy and pathology as needed. The assessment and treatment of common rashes, acne and other skin conditions is part of primary care.

Do you provide routine vaccinations, or vaccines through the Vaccines for Children program?

Viaro provides routine vaccinations for adults and children. We also participate in the Vaccines for Children (VFC) federal program, which provides free or low-cost vaccines to eligible children.

Through VFC, children receive vaccines at low or no cost. Clinics that participate in VFC are required to provide the vaccine even if a family cannot afford to pay. There is an office visit and administration charge. Medicaid covers office visits for children with Medicaid coverage. Our care navigators will help you determine your eligibility.

There are a few vaccines or immunizations, like the immunization for Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) or the vaccine for COVID-19, that exceed the cost boundaries that keep care affordable at Viaro. Certain vaccines can be ordered as necessary, and these costs can be either submitted to your insurance, or you may pay cash.

Can I get tuberculosis, Mantoux or PPD skin tests for work or school?

Both one and two-step tuberculin tests are available at Viaro for you or your child. Viaro uses a purified protein derivative, also known as a PPD test. If you have received a BCG vaccine in the past, you are not eligible for a skin test, but your Viaro provider can order the necessary chest X-ray if needed.

Do you offer school or sports physicals?

Viaro medical practitioners perform school and sports physicals. As a DPC member, this exam can be part of a full well-child or adolescent visit if you alert the staff when you call for the appointment.

If I have a question, how can I contact my provider?

Viaro primary care providers are always available to provide fast, straightforward answers. You can contact your provider through your AthenaOne™ Patient Portal. If you are an established patient, some providers allow you to contact them directly on their phone, email or by text message.

What is care navigation?

Care navigation is what we do to ensure that you receive the exact care you need to achieve your highest-possible level of well-being. Our expert navigators help you reach your health goals sooner, easier and more directly while guiding you along your journey. Your care navigator can also assist in arranging ongoing specialty and supportive care including financial assistance, advanced imaging, community resources and more.

How do I make an appointment?

Making an appointment for any service at Viaro is easy. Call the clinic at 608-668-2103 and our patient liaisons will assist you. If you prefer, use our online appointment schedulers.

Do you offer walk-in care and same-day appointments?

We discourage requesting an appointment as a walk-in because this implies an urgent condition or issue. It is very important you get the right level of care under urgent or emergent conditions. If you walk in, you’ll be assessed by a Viaro triage RN and may be transferred to urgent care as necessary. If the RN is confident that Viaro can provide the appropriate level of care, and an appointment is available, you may be able to see a provider. Timely care for a same or next-day appointment for concerns like a urinary tract infection, sinus infection or a sick child is typically available by calling 608-668-2111. We accept new patients of any age.

If you DO have an emergency, do not call Viaro or walk into the clinic. Call 911 immediately. An emergency is any situation requiring immediate assistance from the police, fire department or an ambulance.

Do you provide urgent or emergency care?

Viaro cannot provide urgent or emergency care. If you do have an emergency, do not call Viaro or walk into the clinic. Call 911 immediately. An emergency is any situation that requires immediate assistance from the police, fire department or an ambulance.

We may be able to accommodate walk-in visitors to La Crosse who do not require urgent or emergency care if an appointment is available. If you walk in, you'll be assessed by a Viaro triage RN and may be transferred urgently as necessary. Timely care with a same- or next-day appointment for concerns like a urinary tract infection, sinus infection or a sick child is typically available by calling 608-668-2111.

Do you provide telehealth services?

Viaro offers e-visits via its Patient Portal. E-visits are included with DPC memberships or available to non-members for a low, per-visit fee. Individual Viaro providers may also allow established patients to contact them directly via phone, email or text.

What medical record does Viaro use? Can it communicate with other health systems’ medical records if I need urgent, emergency or specialty care?

Viaro uses AthenaOne™, a robust electronic health record (EHR) for primary practices that don't have direct affiliations with large health systems. AthenaOne™ is secure and designed for two-way information exchange with the EHRs of other health systems. It offers an intuitive patient portal that lets you quickly and easily schedule appointments, communicate with your providers and access your medical records.

Do you have a patient portal?

Your AthenaOne™ patient portal is accessible 24/7 through a link at the top and in the footer of every page on www.viarohealth.com.

How do you protect my privacy and security?

Viaro is committed to protecting privacy and security. We are required by law to maintain your privacy and your protected health information and to provide you with notice of our legal duties and privacy practices with respect to protected health information. Our privacy practices are available for review/reference, downloading and/or printing anytime.

Are medications available at Viaro?

Federal and state regulations do not allow Viaro to dispense prescription medications at the clinic. Medications are available for certain conditions that require administration while you are the clinic receiving care. Examples of this include antibiotic injections requiring administration by a registered nurse, local anesthetics injected for dermatology procedures and vaccines.

Viaro does have the ability through online portals to recommend certain nutritional supplements that complement the treatment plans you receive from your provider team. These products are not prescription and are delivered directly to you.

Viaro does NOT store narcotics, sedatives or stimulants of any kind in the clinic.

I just have a question. Is there a nurse I can talk to?

You may contact Viaro primary care providers, nurses and medical assistants during clinic hours to obtain fast, straightforward answers. You may also contact them anytime through the Patient Portal. If you are an established patient, most Viaro providers also allow you to contact them directly on their mobile or office phone, email or text.

Is parking available for the clinic?

Free two-hour parking is plentiful around the Pine Steet building and on Third Street. You may also park in the attached Pine Street Ramp for $1.00 per hour, payable using the ParkMobile™ app. Handicap parking is also available on Third Street and in the Pine Street ramp. How does direct primary care (DPC) work for businesses?

Viaro’s healthcare solutions for business feature DPC plans that allow employees or employers to become members by paying a monthly or annual fee. Members get immediate access to a broad range of primary care and medical services. From preventative visits, wellness exams and behavioral health to episodic care, labs, images and minor procedures, Viaro DPC plans provide an affordable, high-quality alternative to the traditional system of third parties determining each patient’s or your businesses’ health care needs.

Most importantly, Viaro’s DPC model promotes strong provider-patient relationships and focuses on giving all your employees’ support and care to help them find their own paths to healthier lives.

Does Viaro DPC fulfill insurance requirements of the Affordable Care Act?

Viaro Direct Primary Care Agreement is not health insurance. As a stand-alone plan, it does not meet the insurance requirements of the Affordable Care Act. Ask a Viaro business development team member to explain how your business can make DPC a quality healthcare solution for your employees.
